Gifts for a website developer

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Sennheiser HeadphonesIt wasn’t long ago that I added a post here with some client testimonials, but not long after doing so I received a present in the post from HeadCandi. HeadCandi is an online Headphone shop that I have been working on various web development projects for and they have decided that they were pleased with my work so sent me a top quality pair of headphones as a thank-you.

Here are the comments they sent along with the headphones:

The gift to you is indeed a reflection of the work that you put in for us and the quality and timescale in which you do it. As I said, I have worked with many web designers, developers and coders in my time but I would have to say that you execute and manage your work the best. Headcandi has come a long way from the original template that we first purchased and I couldn’t be happier with the job you’ve been doing for us so far. So well done.

Now, I’m no audiophile, but the headphones are top of the range Sennheiser HD595′s and are supremely comfortable and an excellent sound quality. However, for me, it really is th thought that counts. The fact that my clients are so pleased with my work that they took the time and thought to send these means more to me than the monetary value of the headphones themselves.

It is always good to know that I’m doing a good job and better still to know that my clients appreciate it.

Testimonials

Friday, March 16th, 2007

I should really have a customer testimonials page on this site, but I don’t so instead I post them here in the latest news section. I’ve had a few ‘colourful’ comments and testimonials from various clients recently so though I would share them with you.

The first is from Gareth Powell after seeing the work I had done in setting up his health and longevity website (it isn’t quite live yet so I won’t link to it from here).

Alan
It is 2.47 am in the morning and I had to have a look… It is the Mona Lisa, the Sistine Chapel, the gardens at Giverney and The Marmitton Museum in Paris. I love it to little pieces. More in detail tomorrow when I am awake and sane. What I would like, later, when you have the time, is to do exactly the same to another two sites. More on that when I awake from an opiated sleep.
Regards to you family,
Gareth
PS I think you some sort of a genius.

The next is from the owner of the website I have built for the South African and Rhodesian Military Engineers.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the patience you have shown to date. You have been more than outstanding in every way. I’m sure there will be more to come as I have great ideas for the site and I hope you will be there to help me along with this fine venture we have undertaken together.

As you can also see there is much interest in the site and this is due in no small way to your effort and input. All the mails I get are complimentary to the excellent product we have today. Never in my wildest expectations did I expect what I have today. The four corners of the world are responding.

And finally a quick one from David Riche of Fairies World, who I deal with on a daily basis and have loads of e-mails that I could choose a testimonial from, but this one that I received yesterday jumped out at me and prompted me to write this post…

Alan
That is AMAZING! You are a fri**ing genius!

Getting good feedback makes it all the more worthwhile for me, even if I do have to censor some of it!

Running Website Shop Goes Live

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Pixelwave Web Design is pleased to announce the release of an online shop aimed at serious runners. The shop based in the South West sells running shoes and training equipment and is marketed as a ‘local online running shop‘.

The website contains a range of quality running equipment and an easy to use shopping cart system that allows site visitors to purchase and securely pay for goods online. The catalogue and products listings are managed in house by the running shop staff.

Pixelwave Design would like to take this opportunity to wish them all the best with their new online venture.

Website updates and speed bumps

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Things are nicely busy here at Pixelwave Web Design at the moment. Work continues on Fairies World and the rest of the sites in the Fairies World collection. As well as adding new content and encouraging people to create inbound links to these sites, we have also been creating more effective interlinking between these websites and increasing the income generated by them. Pixelwave Design is always in close contact with the owner of these sites and we are working together to achieve some impressive goals with respect to visitor numbers and income. We have already made some of these targets and are working towards bigger and better things. Sometimes the results come from unexpected areas which is always a nice surprise.

Pixelwave Web Design has also been working on several improvements to the HeadCandi online store as well as updates to the Mannerborne website.

Work on the 100body, health and longevity website is coming along well as is work on the Mid and West Wales ME Group website. Both are ready to go as soon as their owners add some more content to them. The same is true for a personal weblog that Pixelwave Web Design has set up for the daughter of one of our clients. Pixelwave Web Design is also working on a website for the South African and Rhodesian Engineers. This site has already been launched but the written-copy for several of the pages are still being researched.

A problem with the speed at which the Swap4Cars website was running has been fixed by Pixelwave Web Design. The problem was caused by a database query bottleneck and things are now back up to speed.

I have also just started work on an exciting new project for an Oil and Gas Industry Intelligence Monitor website. I’ll post more details on this project soon.

Health and Longevity Website Design

Monday, March 5th, 2007

Pixelwave Web Design is just starting work on a website for an expat journalist now living in Australia. I’ve worked on various sites for Gareth Powell in the past and his latest venture is a website that will provide news and information to help your body last 100 years or more.

100body.com will be an active website updated regularly with all the latest news from the health sector. New developments, new ideas and the views of experts from the world of health and wellbeing will all be showcased on this exciting new website.

I for one could do with a few tips as although I do try to eat healthily and exercise regularly anything that will make me last a little longer will be welcome indeed!

Web-Hosting – Server Migration

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

It isn’t a particularly exciting job, but Fairies World and many of the sites owned by Fairies World has outgrown its current web-hosting arrangements so over the coming months I shall be moving them lock-stock and barrel onto a new dedicated server.

The success of Fairies World means that the current servers could no longer cope with the huge bandwidth requirements of the site so such a move was unavoidable and although the transfers will be a little time consuming they have come about for positive reasons as far as the website is concerned. Some of the transfers are a little more complicated than others simply because the site have several databases associated with them and some of the scripts need a bit of reconfiguring to work on the new servers, but we aren’t expecting any downtime, except occasionally as the nameserver setting change over.

As I said, it isn’t exciting, or even a particularly challenging project for me, but it does take a certain amount of attention to detail and meticulous planning and will keep me busy for a while.
