Coed Tyllwyd Woodland Project
The Coed Tyllwyd Pilot Community Partnership Project has involved a programme of selective thinning and woodland improvement through the use of a local volunteer labour force alongside local forestry contractors working together in a Forestry Commission woodland. The material that has been felled has been worked on site using a number of different techniques including bodging, carving, milling and charcoal burning. A pole shelter and compost toilet has been constructed in the wood to facilitate community groups. An area for a mobile sawmill and timber stacking has been cleared. Products have been designed and tested and some have been sold to the local community and a little further a field as well. Paths have been improved through out the wood and seats and interpretation material has been installed.
The funding for the project came from the Ystwyth Valley Community Woodland Initiative a Cydcoed funded project. Cydcoed (Woods for All) is a grant programme run by Forestry Commission Wales and funded by the European Union and the Welsh Assembly Government. It gives up to 100% grants to community groups across the Objective 1 region of Wales to help them use woodland for community development.
Funding granted for the project from Cyd Coed was £249,906 we have received £95,068.85 to date.
