SEO and CMS for Shropshire Solicitor, Marc Nye
Pixelwave Web Design have just completed some Search Engine Optimisation work for Marc Nye, a Shropshire based solicitor.
Marc already had a well built website but it wasn't receiving the traffic it deserved and therefore wasn't generating the enquiries it should. Pixelwave Web Design have added an automatically updating Google Sitemap document, added a few new pages to the website and have also integrated a weblog based Latest News Content Management System with the website. This allows and encourages Marc to update his website as often as he likes using an easy-to-use online administration system. Keeping his website up-to-date which will benefit his clients and will also improve his search engine rankings.
I shall be keeping an eye on the performance of his website over the coming weeks to monitor its progress.
Ecology Matters Website Goes Live
Pixelwave Web Design has just finished work on a project for a Wales based ecological research and surveying company
Their new website outlines the services they offer and provides information on some of their previous work and experiences. Pixelwave Web Design have also incorporated a weblog based Content Management Systemthat will allow the staff at Ecology Matters to easily update their latest news section whenever they wish.
The website has been built to conform to the latest web standards, uses CSS for all presentational and layout aspects and valid, semantic xHTML. It is also fully accessible and WCAG AAA approved, complying wih all priority 1, 2, and 3 guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
Website Design Tuition
I pride myself on my friendly, helpful, jargon-free advice and it seems that my clients appreciate this. It does mean I spend an inordinate amount of time and non-billable hours dealing with clients queries and questions on the phone or via e-mail but it is usually worth it in the end
In fact a few clients have taken this a step further and have recently commissioned me to teach them various aspects of Website Design and Search Engine Optimisation. I enjoy the teaching process, not only does it get me in contact with my clients on a face-to-face basis, but it gives me chance to go back to basics and think about the best way of approaching projects. Often, keeping it simple is best.
It also reinforces the fact that there is a world of difference between a professionally produced website and one produced using a package such as Dreamweaver with no real knowledge of what is happening 'behind the scenes'. Don't get me wrong, Dreamweaver is perfectly capable of producing professional quality websites, but only if the user has a basic understanding of the HTML used to build the site. It is possible for almost anyone to produce a website that looks OK, but making it accessible, conform to standards, validate and optimising it for search engines requires more understanding of the way things work.
I shall soon be starting some web-design tuition for a client who has a background in computer programming, database management and other 'techy' aspects of computers. My approach for her tuition will be completely different, focusing on the more technical aspects that really make the difference for a professionally designed website.
Admin vs Productivity
I've a busy week or so ahead of me working on finishing off a few new projects and several updates on existing sites including:
It is nice however to actually be working on some coding as recently I seem to have been spending the majority of my time in meetings with clients or working on administrative tasks. The admin will of course continue with couple of tenders to write and a meeting with the University of Wales, Aberystwyth Estates Office this afternoon to discuss the way forward for the integration of their website and their facility management software.
I shall also be spending some time later this week teaching a new client some of the best practices as far as web-site design, usability and search engine optimisation go. I enjoy the tuition side of my job as it gets me in contact with new people and allows me to pass on my enthusiasm fo certain aspects of web design. I also seem to learn new things whilst teaching others which is always satisfying.
Website Rebuild
I've just completed a website rebuild project for R2BC Films
Reasons To Be Cheerful Films produce high quality, popular and influential films promoting emotional literacy to professionals in the education, health and mental health sectors, as well as for individual groups such as parents and children.
Their website has been rebuilt by Pixelwave Web Design so that it conforms to modern web-standards, is more accessible and better optimised for search engines.
In addition to a complete re-writing of the HTML, the layout was tweaked a little so that the design will work better on modern hardware as well as older equipment. A content management system was also added allowing employees of R2BC Films to add to, and edit the content of the site as and when they like via an easy to use web-based administration panel. Such a system will result in their site being updated on a regular basis which is good for the company, good for visitors to the website and pays dividends as far as search engine rankings are concerned.
