Flash Website Development for Divas International

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

I’ve just started work on the development of a website for Divas International Models.

The website is being built around a Flash-based photo gallery template and will allow Divas International Models to manage the contents of the photo gallery section via a web-based administration panel. I don’t normally do Flash based websites, but the clients were in a hurry and sounded as though they needed some help so I decided to take this project on. The templates are actually relatively easy to edit and most of the content is added via an XML file so hopefully I won’t need to resort to editing the Flash files too much.

So far things are going well and we hope to have the website up and running soon.

Website Design for Isle of Man DFAS

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

I’m pleased to say that a recent trip to the Isle of Man was a success and Pixelwave Web Design will soon be starting work on a website for the Isle of Man Decorative and Fine Arts Society website.

The proposed website is intended as both a promotional tool for IOM-DFAS as well as providing current members of the society with up to date information regarding its activities. In addition to providing background information regarding the aims, objectives and history of the society it will contain a programme of events and lectures along with important contact details.

As always Pixelwave Web Design will be concentration on making the website attractive, easy to use, conformable to modern web standards, accessible and search engine friendly. I’m looking forward to starting work on the site in the near future, and who knows it may give me an excuse to visit family on the Isle of Man a little more often.

Website Design for B&B in Wales

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Following a successful preliminary meeting earlier this week Pixelwave Web Design is looking forward to starting work on a new website for a lovely sounding B&B nestling in the countryside of rural Mid Wales.

The B&B is within a traditional farmhouse set in about 20 acres of land, with a couple of acres of fishpools. The website I’ll be building for this new business venture will be based on a Content Management System allowing the business owner to keep the site up to date on a regular basis.

It is hoped that updating the website will become part of a regular routine so that visitors to the website will be able to see what is going on in the surrounding area from day to day. New content will be added to the website recommending places to visit, informing of upcoming events and generally reporting on any interesting news or developments of interest to people visiting the area.

Updating a website on a regular basis like this not only keeps the site fresh and makes it a worthwhile read, but it has many other benefits too. It improves rankings in search engines as it helps expand the footprint of the website and adds new pages to the site each of which can be highly targeted for particular keywords. Also, Search engines such as Google tend to rank sites that are regularly updated higher than those that are not.

It also enables marketing and networking opportunities with other local businesses and keeps the cost of website maintenance to a minimum as the website can be updated without having to return to your web-developer. Content Management Systems can be complicated and unweildy but that isn’t always the case. The owner of the B&B is relatively new to the world of websites and will need some training in the use of the CMS, but the system will be kept as simple as possible so that it will be easy for her to add new content (and update existing content) on the website as often as possible.

I’m looking forward to getting started on this project and will update you soon on progress.

Website Maintenance and some Feedback

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

I’m keeping nicely busy here designing websites in Wales. On top of all of the usual maintenance and updates to various websites I’ve also been doing the quite a lot of IT trouble-shooting. Both here in my office with my own hardware and for my clients. I’m not exactly a computer engineer but my friendly, helpful nature when building peoples websites seems to encourage people to phone me whenever something goes a little wrong with their computers. I’m not complaining, it is actually quite nice to jump in the car and head off to someones house / office to fix their computer. It makes a change from the same old 4 walls of my office, It gives me a chance to have a chat and catch up with my clients and more often than not I get a cup of tea thrown in for good measure too!

On one such visit this week I was speaking to the owners of Aberleri Seaside Cottages (a website built last year by Pixelwave Web Design) so I asked them how their site was going and was pleased to hear that it is working wonders. They are as busy as ever (the phone was ringing with booking inquiries whilst I was there), and the majority of their inquiries are now coming through the website. So much so that they probably have too many printed brochures this year as people have been getting the info they need from the website so don’t need it in print. At least they’ll know for next year and will be able to save some costs on printing. It’s always good to hear that the work I’ve done is fulfilling its purpose and that my clients are happy with it.

I’ve also recently completed some functional updates to the OGI-TM website that I built last year. Everything seems to be going well with the site but as the number of records grew the site owners needed a way to export those records so that they could be stored offline in a spreadsheet. I created a little script that exported the data to an excel file and my clients seem happy with the results, at least the response I got from them was:

This solution Its absolutely perfect!

Flash Photo Gallery Website Templates Updated

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

The Flash-based dynamic photo gallery templates have been updated.

As before the galleries offer an easy to use online editor allowing you to manage the contents of the galleries and albums and add images to them and all text on the website are edited from a .TXT file making them easy to use. The new version includes updates and improvements are to the front-end and the back-end administration panel. In particular the front-end updates include XML support, navigation buttons in the gallery (”Previous photo” and “Next Photo” buttons) and the ability to create as many categories as necessary.

In the admin panel you no longer have to use “htaccess” to secure the administration panel as there is now an integrated “login” feature. Also included are image editing tools (Crop, Flip, Rotate and Resize) all within the easy to use online administration panel. And with the new “Fonts loader” component many more characters and fonts encodings will be supported.

Wholesale Website for Slick Activewear

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Following the recent release of Slick Activewear’s eCommerce website built by Pixelwave Web Design, I am now working on a similar website for them aimed at their wholesale customers. The new wholesale site will allow their approved wholesale customers to browse through their product line and order products in bulk through their online ordering system.

As always, from my point of view it is good to be working for existing clients as repeat business is good business.

In addition to this project for Slick Activewear, things have been busy here. Work continues on a daily basis on Fairies World and its associated sister websites. I’ve been working hard on the new Community Website for the Sakhalin Expats and work on the website for Bryn Siriol Dental Practice is progressing well.

I have also been working on various small updates to other websites including Get Active Beacons, SASappers and Cymric Cards.

I do still have the capacity for a few more projects over the coming months though, so if you would like to see your next website development project added to this list, feel free to contact me. I’ll be happy to help.

Bilingual website design in Wales

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

The recently launched Glanmor Hotel website built in Wales by Pixelwave Web Design has now gone bilingual. The website was part-funded by the Welsh language board so had to be publised in both English and Welsh versions.

I’m all for promoting the Welsh language and would like to see more websites in Wales committed to providing content in both languages. Unfortunately, all too often this isn’t the case simply due to the fact that there isn’t enough return on investment from getting a bilingual website developed. It is great news then that the Welsh Language Board are funding such projects and encouraging small businesses in Wales to build bilingual websites.

If you are a small business or organisation looking for website design in Wales then it may be worth approaching the Welsh Language Board to see if you can get funding to translate and build a biliingual website.
