Website Design for The Lost Arc in Rhayader

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2015

As part of the Rhayader Vibrant Towns project Pixelwave Design has been commissioned to build websites for several business in Mid Wales town of Rhayader.

I’ve already built a proof of concept website for the project allowing staff to show prospective businesses what they could have, and have now started work on a new Content Management System based website for The Lost Arc.

The Lost Arc have been busy converting the old Tannery building in Rhayader, with the intention of taking it back to its musical roots – re-establishing the main hall as a music venue and a cinema. There will also be a cafe in the building serving  seasonal quality food using locally sourced produce.

The website I’m building for them will promote the venue, it’s events and the cafe and also record the history of the project as it develops. The site will be based on a Content Management System allowing staff at The Lost Arc to update the site whenever they wish. They’ll be able to add new pages, update event listings and keep a weblog, all through an easy to use admin panel.

I’m working to a fairly tight deadline on this project, so already have the main parts of the website in place. I’m now just waiting for suitable content and photos from the clients so that I can get the site ready for release sometime soon.

Website Design for Welsh Village Communities

Monday, March 2nd, 2015

Pixelwave Web Design has recently started work on an exciting new project for various local village communities.

Village Community Website Design

Village Community Website Design

As part of the Pentir Pumlumon initiative, various community councils in the The North Ceredigion uplands are having their online presence improved. The North Ceredigion Uploads covers an area around the top ends of Rheidol and Ystwyth Valleys and includes the villages of Capel Bangor, Cwm Rheidol, Goginan, Ponterwyd, Devil’s Bridge, Cwm Ystwyth, Pontrhydygroes, Ysbyty Ystwyth, Ffair Rhos, Pontrhydfendigaid, Ystrad Meurig, Lledrod, Llanilar, Llanafan and surrounding countryside.

Some of the community councils here have had websites in the past, but they have become out of date and are rarely updated. Those that are joining the new project will have new Content Management System based websites that will be easy to update and maintain and therefore hopefully the content will remain relevant and of use to visitors at all times. As part of the website build process Pixelwave Web Design will be providing tuition and support in use of the CMS to the various councillors to help with the process of keeping the websites up to date. Pixelwave Web Design will also provide ongoing support.

The websites themselves will be simple affairs in order to quickly and easily display the information that members of these communities need to access. This will also ensure that the website are easy to use for both the website visitors and the websites administrators and editors too. All sites within the project will have a similar look and feel to provide consistency between them and to aid collaboration between the various village communities.

The villages signed up to the project so far are Devils’ Bridge, Trawsgoed and Ponterwyd. Their new websites should go live soon, and hopefully others will be joining them in the future

Seaside Cottage Website Redesign

Sunday, February 8th, 2015

A client of mine for whom I built a website many years ago to promote their rental holiday cottages in Ynyslas have recently re-furnished the cottages and have lots of new photos to add to their site. I was going to simply update the site as I usually do, but it was looking a little dated and with the refurbishment of the cottages the website was no longer targeted at quite the right audience.

It was therefore time for a bit of a re-brand and a re-design of the website.

A quick meeting with the clients was arranged and before long we had a plan of action and some ideas for the new site. It’s going to be a complete rebuild of the site with a whole new look a feel. More modern, more information and a nice contemporary feel to really show off the high quality of the properties available for rent.

I haven’t quite started on the site yet but I have a plan so can’t wait to get cracking with it. Watch this space for updates on this new website design project.

Website Design for Property Letting in Wales

Thursday, February 5th, 2015

Pixelwave Web Design is pleased to have recently started work on a new website design project for a family run property letting near Aberystwyth in Wales.

The clients have already had one website built by Pixelwave Web Design for a holiday cottage rental in Cwmystwyth and have now returned to my services for this new project.

Based just outside of Aberystwyth, the lettings are delightful cottage type properties in a quiet picturesque area. Based around a courtyard there are 8 award winning barn conversion properties in total, comprising sympathetically converted 2 bedroomed cottage properties. They are available furnished or partly furnished, with ample safe parking for all vehicles. Ideal for professional couples, single persons or post graduates who are seeking accommodation of quality in a quiet and relaxing area, conveniently situated near Aberystwyth.

The website will be a brochure style website highlighting the features of the properties available for let. It will reflect the character of the properties and provide valuable information and photographs for people seeking a rental property in the area.

I’ve started work on the basic layout and have some content ready for the site as well as plenty of photographs so hopefully it won’t be long before I can show the client the fruits of my labours, but for now here’s a sneak preview.

Website Re-Design for Forestry Project

Friday, December 5th, 2014

Pixelwave Web Design has recently completed a website re-design for a Welsh Forestry Project. I built the original site for them back in 2010 and have been working on the site ever since. Recently they wanted a bit of an update though so their site has been entirely re-designed to include features such as:

  • A Responsive Layout that responds to the screensize the site is being viewed upon and adjusts the layout accordingly providing a more appropriate experience for those viewing the site on mobile devices.
  • Customisable menus from within the Content Management System
  • Facebook Feed
  • Twitter Feed
  • EU Cookie notification
  • A Cleaner more modern design

All is up and running with the new design now and the clients seem happy which is always my aim.

@ebol Press is an innovative educational children’s publisher that publishes bilingual learning and teaching materials for the home, schools and colleges. They are now extending their catalogue by publishing an inspirational new series of books in English, with a Welsh subject matter.

The new series of English books are designed to inspire children about careers and life choices! ‘Spark’ will comprise of real life stories from those who have been there and done that! This set of five books will include some famous faces to prove that it is not always easy to get what you want in life, sometimes it is a struggle, but the sense of satisfaction when you achieve it is greater when you have worked hard!

Pixelwave Web Design has built a brand new website specifically for this new range of books. The website is intended as both a promotional tool for the new range of books and as a way of presenting additional information for readers of the books. The new books introduce the success of Welsh people in various different aspects of life, such as the entertainment, sport, the business world and even ‘unsung heroes’. They are aimed at 9-11 year old children and the website will reflect this demographic. The website showcases these books and provides supplemental information and activities for readers of the books as well as information for parents.

Built around a Content Management System the website will be easily updated by @ebol staff allowing them to add new content and news items whenever they wish. Although the new website has being designed with the ‘Spark’ range of books in mind it is likely to contain more ranges of books, activities and games in the future so this has being taken into account during the build process. The website will therefore allow for easy expansion so that it can grow with @ebol’s increasing range.

Pixelwave Web Design is pleased to announce the release of a brand new website for the Mid Wales Vintage Machinery Club.

The clients and club members all seem delighted with their new website which is built around a Content Management System. This will allow them to keep it up to date, adding and editing content whenever they wish and will allow them to add new events to their online calendar too. I’ve spent a morning with the club members who will be responsible for adding their content to the site to show them how to use the Content Management System and they seem happy with it. So I wish them all the best with their new online presence.

Website Design for Aberystwyth Beekeepers

Monday, September 30th, 2013

Pixelwave Web Design has just released a new website for the Aberystwyth Beekeepers Association. As a member of the association myself I have been producing their newsletter for the past couple of years and have also been keen for them to have a website. When the committee decided that a website would indeed be a useful tool they naturally approached me to design and build it for them. I also worked on the the information architecture and content of the website too.

Based on the design and layout that I use for the newsletter, the site soon took shape and is now live for all to see. As well as providing information about the association and how to join and contact the Aberystwyth Beekeepers it will act as an information hub for existing members. The site contains an events calendar, latest news system and the ability for ABKA committee members to keep the site up to date through and easy to use Content Management System.
